Have you thought about becoming a business owner but didn’t want high start-up costs or put a lot of money down for inventory? Are you a self-starter who is motivated to help others achieve their dreams?

A career in real estate may be up your alley. There’s minimal start-up costs and you are actually investing in yourself. To be a licensed agent, you will have to attend real estate classes, pass a state and national exam, and pay fees to maintain your license. The money you can make from this career will be worth your initial investment, though. And a career in real estate is much more affordable than owning a brick-and-mortar business.

Transitioning into real estate also can be done at your own pace. If you are currently working full time, many real estate agents help clients part-time or as their schedule permits. Others who are full-time agents have found a lucrative career in real state because many agents typically walk away with 2.5% – 3% of a property’s sale price. According to the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR), the average price of a home sold so far this year is a little over $316,000 or a nice $9,400 commission.

Many new agents join real estate companies such as The Levi Rodgers Real Estate Group which has a well-honed system of lead procurement to help beginning agents and existing agents generate sales. Like a franchise fee, agents do pay a portion of their commission to their brokers or real estate companies to help cover the costs of advertising/marketing, office space and other fees the company pays out of pocket for. The fees agents pay brokers vary.

Even more promising, real estate agents made the list of the Top 19 Highest Paying Part-Time Jobs of 2021, according to InterviewGuys.com. It’s not uncommon for real estate agents to start off as part-time and transition to full-time as they increase their clientele. This career choice is also great for supplementing income in retirement or veterans trying to transition into the civilian world.

Currently there’s plenty of business to go around for new agents-- especially at LRG! Locally home sales are up to 16 percent for the month of March compared to the same time last year, according to SABOR. Insider magazine also reported in a May 1 article that the “soaring demand” isn’t expected to subside in 2021. Agents are finding that buyers are eager to get out of quarantine from the pandemic and are wanting bigger houses to fulfill their needs for office space and fitness areas. Our unique partnership with Zillow also helps us offer our agents ready-made appointments, versus just leads.

Just like any career, being a real estate agent does have stresses and often paperwork tasks that are not the most fun. But if you enjoy working with people, want to create your own schedule and enjoy finding helpful solutions, then being a real estate agent might be a good career choice for you.
